Award Winning Packaging
Fres-co Systems USA Inc. (Telford, Pa.; Booth S-5219) was recognized by the Gravure Association of America Inc. on Sept. 14 when it was given a Golden Cylinder Award in four categories for its packaging for Sunkist’s stand-up protein pouch and F. Gaviña & Sons, Inc.’s Don Francisco’s Coffee. The winning entries were chosen by a panel of judges consisting of experts in the gravure industry. The judges spent two days in Rochester, N.Y., judging the entries.
Multi-Serve Protein Drink
The hot-fill stand-up pouch for virtual manufacturer BioBev LLC’s Sunkist Protein 24g houses 48 servings of a highly concentrated protein drink containing 24 grams of protein in each serving. The graphics were designed by the manufacturer and separated by the printer. The packaging material is a construction of polyester, aluminum, nylon and polyethylene. The advanced ink formulations are held in tight registration to one another on a 35+ in. wide web. The process work, with butt fit and phantom shadows, complimented by vivid red, was reverse printed on clear film in eight colors and is laminated to the balance of the substrates all in line on a Cerutti press.
The package is comprised of a combination of elements including some patented or proprietary technologies. The features consist of gravure printing, a distinctive pouch making process with seals to allow the package to stand up, an easy carry handle and a measured dispensing tap. The hot filling process and patented tap allows the protein shots to remain fresh inside the bulk package without refrigeration, while the flexible package reduces in size each time the product is dispensed.
Family Reserve Coffee
F. Gaviña & Sons is a family business spanning four generations. The business dates back to 1870 and is named for their grandfather who became a roaster in his youth. To this day, the roasting process always involves a family member.
The packaging for its Don Francisco’s Coffee Family Reserve line utilizes only six colors along with matte and an easy open pattern. The packaging was reverse printed four across and two around on a wide web Cerruti press. The finished structure, matte/polyester/ aluminum/polyester/polyethylene/ easy open pattern, is comprised by a merging of elements including some patented and proprietary technologies. The printing, laminating and application of the registered easy open and registered matte finish patterns were all united in a single pass.
